This site is dedicated to the City of Springfield’s Supplemental Water Supply Project and serves as a source for all National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)-related public documents and project announcements associated with this project.
The City of Springfield applied to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) for a 404 Dredge and Fill permit for a supplemental water supply. In support of the Corps’ federal decision-making requirements, the Corps required the City to
update the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) completed in 2000 and hire a third party consultant to complete this work. Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure, Inc. now WSP USA, was selected by Corps and hired in May 2016
to prepare a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) on behalf of the Corps and the City of Springfield.
Public input regarding the proposed project has previously been obtained through two separate comment periods, one in 2016 and one in 2021.
A 45 day public comment period on the Draft SEIS was closed on September 25, 2023. Input was received from the public, agencies, and tribes on the
Draft SEIS
to address potential environmental, social, and economic impacts associated with the proposed City of Springfield Aquatic Recreation and Supplemental Water Supply Project.
The USACE held an open house meeting on September 6, 2023 to solicit comments and answer questions regarding the Draft SEIS.
